Sunday Dosunmu, a suspected serial car thief, was apprehended by Ogun State police.
The 53-year-old man was detained while attempting to unlock cars in Leme, Abeokuta, using locally-made skeleton keys.
Omolola Odutola, a spokeswoman for the Ogun State Police Command, informed reporters that the suspect was arrested on Saturday at around 7:30 pm.
According to Odutola, the suspect had earlier been arrested over a similar offence on September 17, 2022, at Olorunsogo “while trying to steal a car from a park along with his syndicate.”
The law caught up with him after he was sighted near a car on Saturday, and on noticing that attention was on him, he fled.
“The young guys gave him a hot chase and caught up with him. They later alerted the police team that visited the scene and arrested the suspect,” Odutola disclosed.
She also added that “two fabricated iron master keys were found in his possession as part of the instrument used to unlock unsuspecting car owners’ vehicles.”
The suspect will be charged to court once the investigation is complete, according to the police.
