Two officers of the Nasarawa State Police Command have been detained at the Force Headquarters in Abuja over allegations that they detained two young travellers and framed one of them with drugs in an attempt to extort ₦150,000 for his release.
The Nigeria Police Force Complaint Response Unit (NPF CRU), in a statement on Thursday, November 5, 2026, said the officers were identified following a viral video showing armed police personnel attached to the Ado Area Command engaging in an altercation with two travellers who were returning from a wedding and heading to the airport to catch a flight to Lagos.
According to the NPF CRU, the two officers reported to the Force Headquarters in Abuja for questioning as part of the ongoing investigation. However, the Unit disclosed that the team leader, Inspector Sani Mikailu, reportedly died under circumstances yet to be established, two days earlier.
The police said the two officers who appeared for the interview have been detained pending the conclusion of the investigation and further directives from the Inspector-General of Police.
