Tragedy struck at General Hospital, Gboko, Benue State, after a fire outbreak claimed the lives of two children, a 2-year-old boy and a 4-year-old girl, on Tuesday evening, October 27, 2026.
According to eyewitnesses and hospital sources, the children were reportedly locked inside a room at the hospital quarters by their parents, who stepped out briefly when the fire started.
A hospital staff member reportedly noticed smoke coming from the room and raised the alarm. However, before rescuers could force the door open, the fire had engulfed the room, leaving the children burnt beyond recognition.
