A 15-year-old girl, identified as Yuleidy Ixcotoyac, reportedly shocked mourners in Guatemala after waking up inside her coffin during her funeral, hours after her father mistakenly declared her d+ad.
According to reports, Yuleidy collapsed while her father, Abraham Ixcotoyac, was driving her to a medical centre. He claimed he could neither feel her pulse nor detect her breathing and declared her d+ without a doctor confirming it.
A coffin was subsequently purchased, and a funeral was arranged about eight hours after she collapsed in the village of El Jocote.
During the wake, her mother, Lesvia Ríos, reportedly noticed movement inside the coffin while crying over her daughter. The family opened it and discovered that Yuleidy was moving before she suddenly sat up and began speaking.
“I kept saying she was alive; she wasn’t d+ad,” her mother told local media, recalling how she noticed her daughter moving inside the casket.
The family reportedly helped the shaken teenager out of the coffin and gave her water as their grief turned to relief and celebration.
