A humanitarian and field operations professional, Lydia Chinenye Nwankwo, has been killed in a bandits’ attack in Shagari Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
Her sister, Chisom Nwankwo, confirmed her death in a Facebook post on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, stating that Lydia and her team were attacked while returning from fieldwork on Tuesday, October 6.
“B@ndits attacked her and her team and shot her dead,” she wrote.
The Sokoto State Police Command also confirmed an attack on communities in Shagari, although it said it was still gathering information about the incident and casualties.
