Families of 11 Fulani youths have called for an urgent investigation into allegations of brutality, unlawful detention, forced confessions and extortion involving a serving security officer attached to Operation Rainbow in Plateau State.
The families accused Mr. Choji Samson Yakubu, identified in their allegations as a member of Operation Rainbow, of subjecting nine Fulani youths to degrading treatment in Barikin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State.
They further alleged that the officer extorted ₦2 million from the victims’ families, demanding an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the reported payment and the treatment of the youths.
The allegations, contained in a statement circulated by individuals calling for justice for the affected families, have raised concerns about the conduct of security personnel, the protection of detainees’ rights and the need for accountability in conflict-affected communities in Plateau State.
The claims have not been independently verified, and the allegations against the named officer should be subjected to an impartial investigation. No response from Yakubu or the leadership of Operation Rainbow was included in the material provided.
