Cross River State Police Command Nab 60 suspects following the alleged ass@ult of a police officer at Watt Market, Calabar.

The arrests followed a viral video alleging that market women held a police officer during a chase involving a suspected internet fraudster.

However, the police described the narrative as misleading, saying the incident occurred after the officer attempted to impound a motorcycle whose rider had allegedly stepped on his leg while he was on duty.

The officer alleged that some roadside traders confronted and assaulted him, tore his uniform and shoes, tampered with his riot gun, and took his Samsung X10 phone.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Ajo Geoffrey Ordue, ordered an investigation and the arrest of anyone found culpable.

The police said 60 suspects were arrested on Wednesday and are currently undergoing screening and interrogation, while efforts are ongoing to identify others involved.

The command said normalcy has been restored at Watt Market and urged the public to rely on verified information.
