US revokes over 175,000 visas under Trump over cr+mes, immigration violations

The United States government has revoked more than 175,000 visas issued to foreign nationals under the administration of President Donald Trump, citing violations of visa conditions, criminal activities and national security concerns.

The US Department of State (DoS), in a statement issued on Monday, said the mass revocations were carried out as part of the administration’s intensified efforts to scrutinise foreign nationals in the country and ensure that visa holders comply with the conditions attached to their visas.

According to the department, the majority of the visa cancellations resulted from encounters between visa holders and US law enforcement agencies over alleged criminal activity.

It listed assault, driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, theft and drug-related offences among the leading reasons for the revocations.
