The Congolese diaspora and the global African boxing community have been plunged into deep mourning following the gruesome murder of Congolese professional boxer Roméo Katompa, popularly known by his ring name “Bololo.”
Katompa was brutally attacked and burned alive during the night of July 16–17 in Johannesburg. Preliminary intelligence reports out of South Africa indicate that the horrific murder is directly linked to the latest, volatile wave of xenophobic violence sweeping across major commercial hubs in the country, where foreign nationals are increasingly targeted by extremist local vigilante groups.
