Troops Neutralise Two ISWAP Terrorists in Ambush Near UNIMAID, Maiduguri

Troops of the 73 Battalion under Operation HADIN KAI, in conjunction with local vigilantes, have neutralised two suspected ISWAP terrorists during a successful ambush operation along the Tamsukawu Road behind the University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) in Borno State.

Intelligence sources told Zagazola Makama that the operation was carried out at about 12:15 a.m. on July 16, when troops lying in ambush made contact with the terrorists moving along the route.

The sources said a fierce exchange of gunfire ensued, during which two suspected ISWAP fighters were neutralised, while other members of the group fled into nearby bushes.

Following the encounter, the troops conducted an exploitation of the surrounding area to track the fleeing terrorists but made no further contact.

Military sources said the operation forms part of sustained efforts by Operation HADIN KAI to deny terrorists freedom of movement around Maiduguri and its outskirts, particularly along routes frequently used by insurgents for infiltration.

Security in the theatre remains under control, although military authorities say troops remain on high alert due to the unpredictable nature of the operational environment.
