IPOB urges Appeal Court to dismiss FG’s cross-appeal, release detained IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has expressed optimism over the ongoing appellate proceedings involving its leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, arguing that the Federal Government’s recent cross-appeal has strengthened its case for his release.

In a statement issued on Saturday by IPOB’s spokesman, Emma Powerful, the group said it had carefully reviewed the Federal Government’s Notice of Cross-Appeal against a judgment delivered by the Federal High Court, Abuja, on November 20, 2025.

According to IPOB, the Federal Government, in its appeal documents, raised issues regarding the trial court’s jurisdiction in relation to certain aspects of the proceedings.

The group argued that such a position has significant implications for the validity of the conviction and sentencing.
