Ex-President Obasanjo opens on managing diabetes for over 40 years

Former President of Nigeria, Olusegun Obasanjo, has revealed that he has been living with diabetes for more than four decades, stressing that many chronic illnesses, though not curable, can be effectively managed through discipline and healthy living.

Speaking during an interview on AIT News, Obasanjo said he has successfully managed the condition for over 40 years by maintaining a healthy lifestyle that includes regular exercise, proper dieting, and adequate rest.

“Most diseases that are not curable are manageable. I have a disease that is not curable yet, and that’s diabetes,” he said.

The former president noted that despite his diagnosis, he has remained active and committed to taking care of his health.

“I’ve been diagnosed diabetic for more than 40 years. I still manage it. Well, what do I do?” he said.

Obasanjo explained that physical activity plays a key role in his routine, revealing that he plays squash three times a week whenever his schedule permits.

“I play squash three times a week. Monday, Wednesday and Friday. If I’m around. I watch what I eat. Diet can be exciting; it can be pleasurable. If you eat badly, then the consequence can also be bad on you. And then rest,” he added.
