Former Labour Party vice-presidential candidate, Dr. Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, has stirred fresh political debate, claiming that Islam’s global image has taken a h+t under the Tinubu/Shettima administration.
Speaking at a Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) event in Abuja, Baba-Ahmed said it was difficult but necessary to speak out. “Listen carefully. It’s not easy for me to say this, but it must be said,” he declared.
He argued that the perception of Islam worldwide has worsened during the current government. “The world of Islam has never suffered reputational d@mage like it has under the Tinubu-Shettima presidency,” he said, adding that Muslim-led nations historically recorded “peace, tranquillity, and justice.”
Drawing comparisons, he referenced leaders like Muammar Gaddafi and Saddam Hussein, noting that despite their flaws, they achieved notable human development. “Besides the human rights ab¥sees, they have established records that are yet unsurpassed,” he stated.
Baba-Ahmed insisted his comments were not religiously motivated but centered on leadership quality. “This is not about religion, if you are bringing a Christian, we want a genuine Christian. If you are bringing a Muslim, we want a genuine Muslim,” he said.
