Court Sets May 28 to Revisit Mohbad D+ath as Fresh Probe Demand Intensifies

The Federal High Court in Abuja has fixed May 28 to hear a suit seeking to compel the Nigeria Police Force to reopen the investigation into the d+ath of late singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad.

Justice James Omotosho adjourned the case after the applicant confirmed that all respondents had been served. Those listed in the suit include the Inspector-General of Police, the Nigeria Police Force, and the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command.

The suit, filed by the Registered Trustees of Break the Silence Foundation, is seeking an order of mandamus directing the police to conduct a “thorough, diligent and impartial” reinvestigation into the singer’s d+atg in September 2023.

At Monday’s proceedings, the applicant’s counsel, Tunde Falola, told the court that all parties in the suit marked FHC/ABJ/CS/***/2026 had been duly served, prompting the adjournment.

The group is also asking the court to compel the police to invite individuals last seen with the singer, particularly his wife, Omowumi Cynthia Aloba, close associates, and his father, Joseph Aloba, who allegedly buried him without prior police clearance. It further urged the court to direct the police to arrest and prosecute anyone found responsible once evidence establishes culpability.
