Troops Arrest Suspect, Recover Rifles After Attack on Forest Guards in Kaduna

Troops of Operation ENDURING PEACE have arrested a suspected assailant and recovered arms following an attack on forest guards and hunters in Jema’a Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

Security sources said the troops of Sector 7 responded at about 9:35 a.m. on April 23 to reports that some assailants were withdrawing towards Jagindi Forest after attacking forest guards and hunters in Gidan Waya.

The sources said the troops immediately launched a pursuit operation towards Ungwan Maruwa, during which they made contact with a suspect who fled and abandoned his motorcycle on sighting the troops.

They added that the area was subsequently cordoned and searched, leading to the recovery of one AK-47 rifle, one AK-49 rifle, a motorcycle and other items.

In a follow-up operation in Gidan Waya, the troops arrested a suspect identified as Ahmed Musa, who was linked to the earlier attack on the forest guards and hunters.

The suspect and the recovered items are currently in military custody pending detailed investigation.

The sources said efforts are ongoing to apprehend other fleeing members of the group and ensure security in the area.
