Iran has revealed it is in talks with FIFA about playing its World Cup games outside of the United States after President Donald Trump warned the team to stay away from the tournament.
The Iran embassy in Mexico said its soccer authorities want their games to be held in the country instead of the US, but it is believed that FIFA will not open to rescheduling games with less than 100 days to go until the competition begins.
‘When Trump has explicitly stated that he cannot ensure the security of the Iranian national team, we will certainly not travel to America,’ Mehdi Taj, the President of the Iranian Football Federation, was quoted as saying
‘We are currently negotiating with FIFA to hold Iran’s matches in the World Cup in Mexico.’
