American actress Kerry Washington has opened up about discovering she was conceived with the help of a sperm donor. Speaking on a podcast with Lewis Howes, Washington said she only found out in her 40s, explaining that her parents had withheld the information, believing it was for her own good.
“My dad believed I was his and wouldn’t even do a genetic test. He said to me then, if you do this it will call me,” she recalled. Washington described how her father’s belief shaped her understanding of her family for decades, as he treated her as his biological child and wanted to maintain that bond.
Reflecting on the revelation, Washington said it was both surprising and emotional, challenging long-held assumptions about her identity while underscoring the complexities of family and the choices parents make. She emphasized that, despite the truth, her relationship with her parents remained loving and meaningful.
