Earthquake in US: Quake of Magnitude 6.1 Strikes Off Oregon Coast

An earthquake of magnitude 6.1 struck off the coast of Oregon, United States on Thursday night, January 14, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS). The epicentre of the quake was located near the offshore of Oregaon, which is away from the residential areas.

Jolts were reported at around 7.25 pm (US local time) on Thursday, with the epicentre located 186 miles west of Bandon, Oregon, and about 261 miles west of Salem, at a depth of 4.4 miles, according USGS. 

No tsunami warnings were issued by the National Tsunami Warning Center, part of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).

Jolts were also reported near the Oregon–California border is part of a seismically active region where earthquakes occur regularly due to the interaction between tectonic plates along the Cascadia Subduction Zone.
