Dr. Betta Edu, Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, made this known when she met with Mr. Shubham Chaudhuri, Country Director of the World Bank, in the bank’s Abuja offices.
She expressed appreciation for the assistance provided by the World Bank in the areas of social services, agriculture, health, and education.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope policy, which resulted in the ministry’s name to emphasise poverty reduction, was highlighted by Edu.
She claims that the federal government’s new “Conditional Cash Transfer” (CCT) social safety net programme will provide coverage for no fewer than fifteen million households.
In addition to mentioning the projected $800M payout for the Social Safety Nets Project, Mr. Chaudhuri expressed his support for the Ministry’s new focus.
The World Bank will support the Ministry’s participation in the UNGA with technical support, give specialised backing for the creation of the Trust Fund, and help verify and expand the National Social Register.
